KEYNOTE SPEAKER:
John Ladd, Administrator, Office of Apprenticeship & Training Administration
This year we are pleased to have John Ladd, Administrator, Office of Apprenticeship & Training Administration, as a keynote speaker. The Federal Government is poised to make an unprecedented investment in Registered Apprenticeship this year by awarding over $100 million in competitive grant funds. The Office of Apprenticeship is seeking to dramatically increase the use of Registered Apprenticeship throughout the country. John will explain why Registered Apprenticeship is a valuable workforce and economic development tool and the strategies that will be employed to help foster apprenticeships in the coming years. INDUSTRY TOURS
A highlight of the NAISTD Conference is the opportunity for local industry tours. This year we have planned two exciting tours on Tuesday, September 15.
***Those registering now will be unable to go on the Industry Tours of Boeing and Port of Charleston . (To meet the regulations for security clearance, registration information had to be turned in already.)***
Boeing Manufacturing
Charleston has become a vibrant hub for aerospace manufacturing. NAISTD participants will be given the opportunity to see the central figure to that hub first hand by touring the Charleston Boeing manufacturing facility. With over 1.5 million square feet of manufacturing space, Boeing Charleston is home to the 787 Dreamliner and produces three complete 787’s per month. Over 7,000 people are currently employed. The Port of Charleston
South Carolina’s seaports have been one of the state’s most vital resources for hundreds of years. Today, the South Carolina Ports Authority operates the state’s vital seaport assets in Charleston and Georgetown, a $45 billion-a-year economic engine generating hundreds of thousands of jobs in the state and beyond. Each day an average of six vessels sail into South Carolina harbors, carrying cargo worth more than $150 million.
